Following Jesus, back to the basics.
Basics4Life is a small, simple ministry based in Wanaka. We help people meet Jesus, follow him together, and pass it on to others.
About
We’re all missionaries in our own backyard.
Basics4Life is a team of everyday believers in Wanaka. We share Jesus with the people around us, gather simply, and help others do the same.
Making disciples doesn’t need a title or a pulpit. It starts with the friends, neighbours and workmates God has already put in your life. Every follower of Jesus is sent, and that includes you.

For churches
No Place Left 5 in 12 training
Our training team presents the No Place Left 5 in 12 training. It helps churches equip their people to share the Gospel, make disciples and start simple gatherings right where they live. Training can be shaped around your church:
A one-day workshop
A practical day on sharing your story and the Gospel, with time to practise together.
A weekend workshop
A fuller weekend of teaching and hands-on practice, with a speaker for your Sunday gathering if you’d like.
Ongoing coaching
Walking alongside your leaders over the following months as they put it into practice.
We travel throughout New Zealand for weekend workshops and speaking. Every church is different, so the first step is a conversation about your people, your time and where you’d like to go.
The four basics
Simple enough for anyone to do, and to pass on.
Share
Share the Gospel
Talk about Jesus naturally, over a meal, by the lake or on the street, with the people already around us.
Disciple
Make disciples
Walk alongside people as they read the Bible, obey what it says and grow to look more like Jesus.
Gather
Gather simply
Small groups in homes and around tables: Scripture, prayer, food and real friendship. No building needed.
Train
Train others to do the same
Everyone we disciple learns to share, disciple and gather too, so it keeps going without us.
The fourth basic loops back to the first. That’s how it grows.
Explore faith
The good news, in four parts.
Curious about Jesus? Here’s the big story of the Bible, short enough to read in a few minutes.
God made us for himself
The world and every person in it was made by a good God who wants to be known and loved.
Genesis 1–2
We turned away
We’ve all gone our own way, and that has broken our relationship with God and with each other.
Genesis 3 · Romans 3:23
Jesus came to bring us back
Jesus, the promised Messiah, lived the life we couldn’t, died in our place and rose again, so we can be forgiven and made new.
Isaiah 53 · Luke 24
We’re invited to respond
Turn to God, trust Jesus and follow him. You don’t have to work it out alone. We’d love to talk.
John 3:16 · Romans 10:9
Try it yourself
Read a story, ask three questions
Start with these
- Genesis 1 · Creation
- Genesis 3 · The first wrong turn
- Luke 15:11–32 · The lost son
- John 3:1–21 · Born again
- Luke 23–24 · The cross and the empty tomb
Ask each time
- What does this show me about God?
- What does it show me about people?
- What will I do about it this week, and who will I tell?
Read it with a friend. It works even better that way.

The Commands of Christ
Ten short studies for new disciples, one a week: repent and believe, be baptised, pray, make disciples, love, worship, the Lord’s Supper, give, gather, and begin long-term discipleship. Each study follows a simple look back, look up, look ahead pattern, and includes the church circle and a quick-reference page.
